The African Pre-Vet Wildlife Experience

Who should apply

Wildlife lovers who want a "hands-on" internship in African wildlife and conservation. Anyone who is considering a career in veterinary science, animal welfare and animal management.

2 -16 weeks

Location

Interns will work over several conservation areas in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Activities are based in three areas of demand:

AFRICAN WILDLIFE Spend time in commercial and non-commercial game reserves studying and working with African wildlife
AGRIGULTURAL LIVESTOCK Gain hands-on experience with a range of livestock
DOMESTIC ANIMALS Work with a range of domestic animals in rural villages and township settlements where many of the domestic animals are classed as vulnerable and abused

Volunteers are based in shared accommodation in a serviced and catered house just minutes walk from Chintsa beach.

Facilities:

- Shared accommodation
- Communal kitchen & living area
- Electricity
- Hot & cold running water
- Bath & shower room facilities
- All bedding and linen included
- Washing machine available for volunteer use

Due to the nature of the Pre-Vet Experience interns work between various reserves, farms and rural villages and are mobilized to where the work is. Program accommodation reacts to this need and interns can expect to stay in a variety of accommodation in the wider Chintsa area. This accommodation will always be comfortable and safe and could include work based tented camps, bush cottages, farm houses and occasionally lodges.

Included:

- Accommodation in a range of suitable shared accommodation
- Three meals per day whilst on project

- Shuttle from East London airport upon arrival and departure

Not included:

- Airfares and flights
- Travel Insurance
- Snacks, drinks and meals outside of project
- Extra excursions and trips

Project Start Dates:

*The Pre-Vet Experience is unavailable during January and February due to the lambing season; tasks and experiences such as wildlife relocations cannot be undertaken during this period.

Terms and Conditions of application:

- Volunteers must be aged 18+ to take part in the project.
- Volunteers must have a competent level of spoken English
- Volunteers must provide a certificate to prove that a Police Check has been undertaken in their country of residence
- Volunteers must supply payment in full before placement can be confirmed

TIA. This Is Africa. Over summer I went through an amazing experience. I went on a Pre-Vet internship (Safari4u) in South Africa for a little over 2 months. I made life long friendships and memories and this is only part one.
